Jack G. — Facebook reviewYes. Panels run on light, not heat, and actually produce more efficiently in cold weather. Snow slides off a tilted array on its own within a day or two of sun. Your production drops in December and January and climbs back in spring — the system is sized around the full year, not one month.
Most roofs are. What matters is the direction it faces, how much shade it gets, and how much life is left in the shingles. South-facing is best; east and west still work well. If your roof is close to needing replacement, it's usually worth doing that first. If the roof isn't a good fit, a ground mount is often the better answer — I'll tell you straight either way.
Most residential systems are installed in a few days. The longer part is permitting and utility approval, which typically runs several weeks from signing to the day your system is switched on.
Most homeowners see a 70–80% reduction depending on the home and system size. You stay connected to the grid, so you still get a bill with a small service charge. Extra production during the day offsets what you pull at night.
No. A grid-tied system without batteries is the most common setup and has the best payback. Batteries are worth it if you want power during outages. I install hybrid inverter and battery systems when that's what you want — and I'll tell you if I think you don't need them.
Federal solar incentives have changed, and what applies depends on when your system is placed in service. I'll tell you honestly what's available at the time I quote you, and I won't build a promise into the numbers that I can't back up. Confirm the details with your tax preparer before you file.
